{"id":3250,"date":"2024-04-08T13:08:24","date_gmt":"2024-04-08T17:08:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.viewworld.org\/?p=3250"},"modified":"2024-04-08T13:08:26","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T17:08:26","slug":"spain-will-scrap-golden-visas-that-allow-wealthy-non-eu-residents-to-stay-if-they-buy-real-estate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.viewworld.org\/?p=3250","title":{"rendered":"Spain will scrap \u2018golden visas\u2019 that allow wealthy non-EU residents to stay if they buy real estate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MADRID (AP) \u2014 Spain\u2019s government said Monday it plans to scrap so-called\u00a0\u201cgolden visas\u201d\u00a0that allow wealthy people from outside the European Union to obtain residency permits on investing more than half a million euros (dollars) in real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Socialist Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez said his minority coalition government would study the reform in the weekly Cabinet meeting Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking Monday, S\u00e1nchez said the reform was part of the government\u2019s push to make housing \u201ca right, not a speculative business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government says some 10,000 such visas have been issued since the measure was brought into law in 2013 by a previous right-wing Popular Party government as a means to attract foreign investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGolden visas\u201d are strongly criticized for spurring property price hikes and speculation in the housing sector.
